Privacy policy

Who we are

This website is run by Lighthouse Maritime Agency Ltd (RC 7964161), 5 Bornu Crescent, Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria. We are the data controller for the personal data you send us through it. This policy is written to meet the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

What we collect

We only receive what you choose to send us:

• PDA request: your name, company, role, phone or WhatsApp number and, if you give it, your work email, together with the vessel and port call details you enter.
• Contact form: your name, company, enquiry type and message, plus your email and phone number if you give them.

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

How our forms work

Our forms do not send anything to us by themselves. When you fill one in, your details are checked in your own browser. When you choose to send, the form opens your own email app or WhatsApp with your details already written in, and nothing reaches us until you press Send there. You can also copy your details and send them yourself.

While you fill in a form, your browser keeps a copy of what you have typed (in "session storage"), so that it is not lost if you leave the page and come back. This copy stays on your device, is never sent to us, and is removed when you choose "Start a new request" or close the browser tab.

Why we use it

We use your details only to answer your enquiry or PDA request, to contact you about it and to keep a record of it. Our lawful basis is your consent when you send us a message, and our legitimate interest in responding to requests for our services.

Where it is kept

• Email: messages you send arrive in our operations and administration inboxes.
• WhatsApp: if you send by WhatsApp, the message is handled by WhatsApp (Meta) under its own privacy policy and kept in our WhatsApp account.
• Hosting: the website is hosted by Vercel. It does not store the details you type into our forms.

Some of these providers may store data outside Nigeria. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards required by the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

Google Maps

The map on our Contact page is not loaded until you select "Show map". Once you do, Google receives information from your browser under its own privacy policy.

How long we keep it

We keep the messages you send us for [retention period], then delete them, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you have the right to:

• ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
• ask us to correct or delete it;
• withdraw your consent or object to how we use it;
• ask us to move it to another organisation; and
• complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
